January 28 is national Data Privacy Day. The goal is to raise awareness and educate consumers to better understand how their personal information may be collected and the benefits and risks of sharing personal data online.
Not only is this time to think about your personal data, but technology wanted to remind you about school data and security. Here are some awareness items that we want to bring to your attention:
- Don’t write down and leave passwords out in the open, including in your laptop or laptop bag.
- Don’t walk away from your desktop or laptop and leave it unsupervised in student areas. You can easily lock your machine by pressing the Windows Key (cluster of squares usually on the left by Alt) and the letter “L” at the same time.
- Be aware of the risk when you put information in shared drives, including your Google Drive. Note what you are placing and who you are sharing it with when you do create items and save them.
